You don't have to give up comfort food to eat diabetic-friendly. These homemade Sloppy Joes are rich, savory, slightly sweet, and made without all the added sugar found in canned sauces. They're easy to make, family-friendly, and perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90/10 or 93/7)
  • ½ small onion, finely diced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ½ cup G Hughes Sugar Free Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Splenda Monk Fruit Sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup water

Directions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. If using onions, cook them with the beef until softened.
  2. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, tomato paste, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, monk fruit sweetener, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and water.
  4. Stir well until everything is combined.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve on a 100% whole-wheat bun, a lower-carb bun, a lettuce wrap, or as a Cheesy Sloppy Joe Bowl topped with shredded cheddar cheese.
