Front Porch Diabetic

A Southern Guide to Living Well with Type 2 Diabetes

About

Welcome to Front Porch Diabetic

Pull up a rocking chair and stay awhile.

Hi, I'm Michelle.

If you've found your way here, chances are you're living with Type 2 diabetes, cooking for someone who is, or simply looking for healthier Southern recipes that still taste like home.

When I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I felt overwhelmed. Like so many others, I wondered if I'd ever enjoy the foods I grew up loving again. Sweet tea, Sunday dinners, casseroles, biscuits, desserts, and those comforting family recipes all seemed out of reach.

Instead of giving them up, I started learning how to recreate them with smarter ingredients while keeping the Southern flavor that makes them special.

Why Front Porch Diabetic?

Growing up in the South, life happened on the front porch. Neighbors stopped by. Stories were shared. Coffee was always brewing. Everyone was welcome.

That's exactly what I want this website to be. A place where nobody feels judged, nobody feels alone, and everyone can find encouragement, recipes, and hope.

You'll find:

  • Southern diabetic-friendly recipes
  • Sugar-free coffee creations
  • Easy family meals
  • Comfort food with smarter ingredients
  • Kitchen tips and pantry favorites
  • My personal diabetes journey
  • Honest successes... and honest struggles

A Little More About Me

I'm a wife, mom, grandmother, former respiratory therapist, small business owner, cookbook creator, and someone who believes food brings families together.

You'll often find me testing recipes, enjoying a cup of coffee on the porch, spending time with my family, or creating recipes that prove you don't have to give up Southern comfort food to manage diabetes.

Every recipe you see here is created with one goal:

Southern Comfort.
Smarter Choices.
One Recipe at a Time.

From My Front Porch to Yours

Whether you're newly diagnosed, have been living with diabetes for years, or you're simply trying to cook healthier meals for your family, I'm glad you're here.

I hope these recipes make your table a little happier, your blood sugar a little easier to manage, and remind you that life with diabetes can still be full of comfort, tradition, and delicious food.

Welcome to the Front Porch. There's always room for one more.
