A Southern Guide to Living Well with Type 2 Diabetes

Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon

Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon

A Diabetes-Friendly Southern Side

Simple ingredients, old-fashioned Southern flavor, and a recipe made with love.

Pull Up a Chair...

Some recipes don't come from cookbooks. They come from watching someone you love stand at the stove, cooking by memory and knowing exactly when something is just right.

This Southern Fried Cabbage with Bacon is one of those recipes.

My mom has always made this the old-fashioned Southern way — in a cast iron skillet. The bacon is cooked first, leaving behind that smoky, savory flavor that seasons the onions and cabbage as they cook together.

When you are managing Type 2 diabetes, side dishes can sometimes be the hardest part. You want something that feels like home without relying on potatoes, rice, or pasta.

This recipe proves that simple vegetables, cooked the Southern way, can still bring plenty of comfort to the table.

So grab a plate, pull up a chair, and enjoy a little taste of home.

From My Mom's Kitchen ❤️

Some of the best recipes aren't written down — they're learned by watching someone you love cook.

This fried cabbage has always been made in my mom's cast iron skillet, where simple ingredients become something special.
